Hi, I’m Luke
I grew up in the rural East Midlands climbing trees, riding bikes and playing curby with my brother.
I’ve always enjoyed drawing, almost as much as I enjoyed taking the L shaped pin out of our tractor toy and shooting my brother with imaginary bullets and descending into an argument about if I’d shot him. But it was my mum who made the biggest impact on my art, I grew up admiring her drawings and paintings and I wanted to be able to do the same.
I find it very easy to be interested in a lot of things, which is great because I never struggle to fill my time, but it also made it very difficult for me to distinguish between my hobbies and what I want to do for a living. For over 10 years I’ve been training and working in Graphic Design, both in-house and freelance. I’ve learnt many transferrable skills along the way, and the most important and enjoyable I’ve found has been problem solving. Being able to utilise critical thinking and design theory to come up with appropriate solutions plays a massive role in my work, and my day-to-day life.
Whether it’s for the real world or not, designing things, characters and stories is what drives me.
I’m compelled to invent things, and design the world around me, from my waterproof poncho and ideal smartwatch, to my wife’s engagement ring.
